With just under 2,000 growing degree days, Derbyshire Vineyard is both a marvel of modern viticulture and a throwback to the days of farming at the whim of mother nature. The vineyard was planted in 2002 to Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris producing cool-climate, terroir driven wine (Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sparkling Brut Rosé of 100% Pinot Noir) from the vineyard “on the edge”. With yields maxing out at 1/2-1 ton per acre, its close proximity to the ocean, and the ability to fully ripen fruit in the fall with amazing depth, acidity and color, Derbyshire vineyard is definitely destined for a promising future.

In 2005, grower/winemaker Dan Kessler and his wife Ellen established their home and 29 acre Kessler-Haak Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The vineyard's unusually cold microclimate and well drained soils promote Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes with full ripeness, lively acidity and lower sugars. Vineyard balance is nurtured and maintained through traditional cane pruning, mechanical weed control and avoidance of inorganic chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides. Our wines are crafted without fining or filtering and with minimal intervention to capture the beauty and uniqueness of this very special vineyard.

Paul Lato Wines
Santa Maria, CA, USA
Latitude: Longitude:
I believe in harmony and elegance. These are the qualities I constantly try to capture in my wines. The ultimate goal is to create wines that are seamless and textural, with the structure and balance to complement fine cuisine.
In order to make wines of the highest caliber, I select unique vineyards that are cared for by talented vineyard managers. During the growing season, yields are restricted to achieve maximum concentration of flavor. Harvest is based on physiological ripeness, which changes depending on the vintage characteristics.
Cellar work is based on minimal intervention, cleanliness and purity of intention. Because every vintage is different, I do not believe in recipes. With due respect to science, I do believe that true artisanal winemaking is based on intuition, sensitivity and passion. Keeping lots small allows gentle handling throughout the winemaking process.
I want my wines to give pleasure and keep your palate interested until the last drop from the bottle – I hope you like them at first sip and love them at the last.

Since 1981 Saintsbury has been committed to demonstrating that world-class Pinot Noir is a California mainstay. The winery was founded by winemakers Dick Ward and David Graves who believe innovation and a critical look at vineyard terroir and winemaking is the best route to quality. Today with Winemakers Jerome Chery and Chris Kajani, Saintsbury continues to pursue the "philosophy of investigation" that has helped make Saintsbury one of America's foremost Pinot Noir producers.

Vision Cellars
Windsor, CA, USA
Latitude: 38.547133 Longitude: -122.81638
I was born the son of a Texas Moonshine maker. My Father, Sue, was considered by many to be the finest Moonshine maker in all of Texas, because of the fine grains he used to make his corn whiskey. My Mother Elbessie, along with her brothers and sister, made wine from the various fruit we grew.
It was not until I tasted my first Burgundy, long about 1955, that I fell in love with fine wine. In that year, I happened upon a taste of 1952 Burgundy, and vowed to myself then and there that I would someday aspire to make a wine as fine as that.
Years later, my wife Lil and I purchased the best fruit available to us and my personal vision to become a winemaker was realized, with our first bottling of our 1997 Pinot Noir…so named “Vision Cellars”. My sincere wish is that you enjoy these wines.

VML Winery
Santa Rosa, CA, USA
Latitude: 38.563979 Longitude: -122.872963
In life, usually the biggest challenges offer the greatest rewards. This is what drew me to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay — grapes that grow on the margins of viticultural regions. Preferring cool, foggy days to sunlit ones, these varietals have the potential to offer complete expression of their roots. However, this requires the subtle and intuitive touch of a good farmer and eventually the gentle influence of the winemaker.
